Metawon (a.k.a. John Bailey) is an award-winning Canadian hip-hop DJ, producer, and record collector with a deep history of releases, features, and performances that spans almost 20 years. His diverse musical tastes are evident in both his DJ sets and original productions, and always tend towards soulful and beat-driven selections. Metawon has worked on solo, group, and collaborative albums, along with being sought after as a remix artist, and was recently featured alongside Calgary duo Dragon Fli Empire and the legendary New York emcee J-Live for the upbeat homage to digging in their single “Record Store”.

With his latest release, Metawon returns to resurrect the soundscapes of the legendary assassin Kinso, releasing a dozen musical scrolls that explore his twelve formative trials. A sequel to the 2011 album “Kinso’s Travels”, which examined the cyclical life of Kinso as a nomad between jobs, “The 12 Trials of Kinso” is the soundtrack of battle, of conflict, of murder, and of the one who surpasses all others to claim a bitter prize of anonymity and solitude. Firmly rooted in the kung-fu sounds of early 90s New York hip hop, Metawon guides the listener through a barrage of beats and martial arts samples to realize a vision of classic instrumental hip hop, sharp as a katana blade.
